Just another quick message to say my website has been successfully moved and next up it’s the turn of this blog. That should have moved home by the end of this week so I’ll save my future posts for once it has moved (including pictures and a write up of a helicopter shoot I did over Central London a couple of days ago)

I’ve just taken delivery of the new version of Lowepro’s very popular Lens Trekker 600…finally! When I picked up my Nikon 600/4 I tried to get the Lens Trekker to go with it but was annoyed to find it had been discontinued! I looked at various other solutions, none of which appealed and after several calls to shops I was told there was a new and improved version on the way ‘at some point’. Well I’m happy to say ‘at some point’ has arrived and at 8:30 in the morning the doorbell rang and the postman handed me a large cardboard box…so what have they changed in this new version…?

7 a.m., I’m standing in the middle of a field of bracken, the sun isn’t up yet, it’s foggy and all I can hear is the roar of unseen Stags coming from all directions…this is what nature and wildlife photography is all about…! Go back an hour and a half, it’s 5:30 a.m. and my alarm has just gone off. A little voice in my head says ‘roll over, go back to sleep’, I’m so glad I ignored it…

Well, not too much luck with capturing the action of the rut as yet…I’ve only witnessed a couple of minor scraps. But, I am having a great time getting shots of the deer in varying light/weather conditions whilst looking for the fights.

Fitting the 600/4 in the 200-400 bag.

Whilst waiting for Lowepro to release an updated version of the Lens Trekker 600 (seems the older one isn’t quite big enough for a D3 & 600 VR so they are making the bag larger) I decided to see if I could get my non-VR 600 f4 in to my 200-400 bag as a stop gap measure…turns out not many people seem to know about this one, but the CL-L2 bag that is supplied with the 200-400 VR will also fit both the 500 and 600/4 primes. I’ve read a few comments from owners saying the lens simply does not fit in this bag but as you can see from the pictures, it simply does!
